Parenting can certainly be a challenge!
Please consider joining me and other parents for this series - it is a lovely way to connect with other parents, get support, and learn new tools! What is Positive Discipline? Positive Discipline is different from conventional discipline. It has nothing to do with punishment and everything to do with instructing, educating, preparing, training, regulating, skill building, and focusing on solutions. The principles of Positive Discipline will help you and your children feel encouraged and empowered through non-punitive methods that develop valuable social and life skills. These methods are based on: Mutual dignity and respect. Making sure the message of love gets through. Providing a foundation of kindness and firmness at the same time. Seeing mistakes as wonderful opportunities to learn. Getting into the child’s world- understanding that a misbehaving child is a discouraged child, and the importance of dealing with the belief behind the behavior. Helping children explore the consequences of their choices instead of imposing consequences. Family meetings to teach problem-solving and communication skills. Mixed signals can lead to confusion, stress, and anxiety, which can negatively impact your well-being.
Deciding to take mixed signals as a "no" can be a form of self-preservation and self-care. It allows you to set boundaries and protect yourself from potential disappointment or hurt. While it might feel disappointing initially, it can ultimately save you from investing time and energy into something that may not be fruitful or healthy for you. Remember, it's essential to prioritize your emotional well-being and not to ignore your instincts or feelings. Trusting yourself and your boundaries is crucial in maintaining healthy relationships and protecting your mental health. If someone's intentions or communication are unclear or inconsistent, it's okay to step back and prioritize your own needs. Finding your life path is a personal and ongoing process - seek the support of a therapist, and be open to exploration, growth, and adaptation as you navigate your journey. Do what works for you. Trust in yourself and have faith that you'll eventually find the direction, that's right for you.
